This course deals, in a practical manner, with project risk management as a management technique that can be used to handle risks associated with development cooperation and public-sector projects throughout the cycle. These projects are often planned without any specific emphasis on risk, but with the entire focus on project interventions, plans and budgets. In practice, however, such projects evolve in high-risk environments, in contexts that are characterized by high levels of complexity and uncertainty and by the involvement of multiple stakeholders. This course is designed to address this gap and help participants establish a framework for the application of formal risk management to development cooperation and public-sector projects.
