Working for a better world

news - 06/12/2017
The Academy on the Promotion of Decent Work in Fragile and Conflict-affected Settings took place in Freetown, Sierra Leone, from 27 November to 2 December 2017.

share:

The five-day event was coordinated by the ILO and the ITCILO and delivered by leading international experts. Designed for policy-makers and development practitioners in Africa, the Academy addressed a mixed audience of development actors, including senior government officials, representatives of workers' and employers' organizations, programme managers and staff of civil society organizations.

By the end of the training, participants had gained a better understanding of the complexities of job creation in situations of fragility and conflict, and of the guiding principles for developing a coherent and effective response to crises. In addition, they had enhanced their ability to design, implement and evaluate effective strategies for creating decent jobs in such circumstances, using proven tools and methodologies.

In addition to plenary sessions, the Academy offered five elective courses in two languages for participants to choose from:  the Value-Chain Development Approach; Employment-Intensive Investment Programmes; Local Strategies for Economic Development in Fragile settings; Empowering Youth in Fragile Settings through Skills Development and Vocational Training; and Fragile-to-Fragile Cooperation.
