Communicating effectively to become the leaders of the future
The ITC-ILO will run a training activity on “Communication for young trade union leaders” from 14 to 18 December 2009.
Managers are people who do things right, whereas leaders are people who do the right thing. The key to success lies in communication. This training activity will provide practical communication strategies, leadership language and techniques for conversing with the public.
To become a great leader, it is necessary to learn how to make things happen by mobilizing people. Communicating effectively will help.
The course will bring together young trade union staff from communication, public relations and other departments that contribute to trade union action and campaigns, all from South East Europe Youth Network countries (1).
The course will focus on topics such as:
- effective communication strategies and youth campaigns;
- public speaking;
- writing effectively;
- dealing with ILO issues;
- preparing press releases and live statements;
- using IT in youth campaigns;
- the ILO campaign to put gender equality at the heart of decent work.
Like all other Turin Centre training activities, the course is a blend of theory and practice. It will also cover public relations on the Internet and their part in a trade union communication strategy. The latest ILO studies and publications on youth employment will be used in groupwork exercises and in plenary discussions.
