Delivering as One

“Delivering as One” is the way to achieve better coherence between the economic and social policies pursued by UN system agencies.

“Delivering as One” contributes towards greater national ownership and government leadership, increased transparency, reduced duplication, increased coherence in planning, and better delivery and reporting of results, particularly on cross-cutting development challenges. To give a voice to this message, a workshop will be held on campus from 2 to 5 December on "Knowledge Sharing on the ILO's Engagement with the UN for countries adopting the Delivering as One approach" for ILO Directors from field offices.

In 2006, the UN launched the “Delivering as One” approach in eight pilot countries to encourage UN system members to harness synergies and complementarities to support national development, through the principles of “One Programme, One Leader, One Budgetary Framework, and One Office”.  Since then, 44 countries have signed the UNDAF (UN Development Assistance Framework) or One Programme. The UNDAF is the strategic programme framework for UN Country Teams (UNCT). It provides the collective response of the UNCT to priorities in the national development framework.

The One Programme brings all members of the UN Country Team together under one nationally-owned strategy that draws on the full range of expertise and ensures a fully-integrated approach to delivering development results in a coherent manner.

As part of its active involvement in this system-wide coherence project, the ILO has renewed partnerships and joint programmes with the UN, bringing a critical mass of effort and resources into a limited number of areas of critical importance concentrating on issues that can play an important role in building teamwork in the Office, so that it truly does deliver as “One ILO”.

There is a need for a relevant, useful and influential Organization operating as "One ILO" and delivering quality services with value for money, operating as a full and responsible player in the United Nations "Delivering as One" approach and as an influential actor in the development agenda beyond 2015[1].
