Earth Day 2016
Earth Day 2016 and the signing ceremony for the Paris Agreement on climate change coincide on 22 April, reminding us of our global commitment to sustainability.
The Paris Agreement, adopted by 195 countries, will be signed at the UN Headquarters in New York. This milestone is of significant importance to the World of Work, since it highlights “the imperative of a just transition of the workforce and the creation of decent work and quality jobs in accordance with nationally defined development priorities”.
ILO Headquarters and the Turin Campus are celebrating Earth Day 2016 with two simultaneous actions:
- As part of the Green Centenary Initiative, the ILO is convening in Geneva, in conjunction with the Geneva Environment Network, a dialogue on the Paris Agreement on Climate Change: Implications for the World of Work. This event will discuss how the ILO can support its constituents in the implementation of their national commitments.
- The theme for Earth Day 2016 is “Trees for the Earth”! The Turin Campus is supporting this global campaign by revamping the tree replanting project that was launched in 2015 and will be continued in collaboration with Agriforest, to maintain environmentally sustainable land management and biodiversity around our premises, which are currently populated by more than 600 trees from 52 different species.
