Elena Gastaldo remembered through two special fellowships
In June this year we lost a friend, a young and committed colleague, a companion in life and work. This was Elena Gastaldo, whom many of us knew and appreciated for her personal qualities and professional dedication. She had just celebrated her 40th birthday.
Elena left us with a painful void, but also with a legacy that we want to honour and cherish. Women, indigenous people and youth were among Elena’s many passions, from her time at university and through her working experiences at the International Training Centre, at the UN Secretariat and then at the ILO.
To honour her memory in a way we believe she would have liked, a group of friends and colleagues has made it possible to fund two special fellowships, one for an African woman and one for a Central American representative of indigenous people.
Both of them will be invited to attend the forthcoming ITC-ILO Gender Academy, to be held at the Turin Centre from 21 November to 2 December 2011.
Together with them, we will take up Elena’s baton and continue her determined struggle for a better world.
