Helping to build a better world
On Monday 9 May 2011, Mr Giovanni Serpelloni, Head of the Department of Anti-Drug Policies of the Presidency of the Italian Council of Ministers, will present the EDU.Care project, promoted and funded by his Department, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC), and implemented by the ITC-ILO.
EDU.Care aims to raise national awareness of the importance of prevention and early detection of drug use by teenagers and pre-teens. It targets Italian families, teachers and doctors.
Its main specific objectives are to:
- understand better the problems of pre-adolescents by establishing more effective relationships with them, their families and schools;
- develop a system for early detection, identification of best practice and guidelines for young people in trouble because of drug use;
- increase awareness by pediatricians of the relevance of this project, based as it is on recent studies in neuroscience.
