Ms Patricia O’Donovan is the new Director of the ITC-ILO
The first woman to be appointed Deputy General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Ms Patricia O'Donovan is also the first woman to be Director of the International Training Centre of the ILO, established in 1965.
Ms O'Donovan graduated from University College, Cork, Ireland, as a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Laws. In 1975, she was awarded a Barrister-at-Law degree by the Honorable Society of King's Inns, Dublin, Ireland, and was subsequently called to the Irish Bar. She also holds a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School, Harvard University, USA.
Before joining the ILO, Ms O'Donovan was Deputy General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and a member of the Governing Body of the ILO.
Ms O’Donovan joined the ILO in 2001 as Director of the InFocus Programme on Strengthening Social Dialogue and in 2002 became Director of the InFocus Programme on Social Dialogue, Labour Law and Labour Administration. In 2004, she was appointed Executive Director for Management and Administration within the ILO.
