The Chemistry of Learning

Studies published over the past few years by learning and memory researchers have suggested that certain experimental and collaborative approaches to training lead to better learning results.
Unlike the traditional lecture or presentation, these approaches actively engage participants and allow them to absorb information, apply it to their context, and incorporate it into a mental model, resulting in better retention. The participatory, learned-centred approach to adult learning has the added benefit of allowing participants to learn from the experience of their peers.
In a three-day course on the Chemistry of Learning, taking place from 9 to 11 November 2011 on the Turin campus of the ILO-ITC, learning facilitators from diverse backgrounds will work together to apply and test different learning methodologies, with a focus on participatory approaches. Sharing and learning from each other's experience, participants will work to find the right ingredients for their context-specific learning formulas.
