Helping to build a better world
“Disaster risk reduction is essential to ensure sustainable development” - this was the opening remark made by the Cape Verdean Minister of Internal Affairs, Marisa Morais, at the launch of the Centre’s training activity on “Gestão do Risco de Desastres e Desenvolvimento Local”, that took place in Praia on 7 to11 October.
“Natural disaster risk management should be given priority, and reflected in investments and appropriate actions to prevent climate change. I stress this aspect because we often talk of climate change in our vision of the future, but this is already a real and actual fact, and we have to prioritize the creation of warning systems to minimize the impact of disasters", she continued.
This activity is part of the Training Programme on humanitarian aid, disaster prevention and post-disaster social and natural recovery, financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Brazil and carried out by the Centre.
Thirty participants took part in this training activity that included representatives from the five Portuguese-speaking African countries: Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe
The aim of the training activity was to share and develop theoretical knowledge and practical tools to incorporate disaster risk reduction as an integral part of local development processes.
