Participants’ voices – Focus on “Communicating Rights at Work”
We are pleased to publish a testimonial from Zimbabwe
I had a wonderful experience while at the Turin Centre on 25-29 July 2011.
The Centre is situated in a very pleasant environment, with the river Po flowing behind the complex; a very pleasant view and fresh air for those who love nature.
The accommodation is of international standard with free internet access in every room, giving the learner ample time to research and complete assignments. The food is great and I tasted all types of Italian and international dishes available in the self-service canteen.
The interactive training programme was a real eye-opener for me. As a journalist from an African country on the list of International Labour Organization violators of labour rights, I was amazed at how much I personally did not know about International Labour Standards; I used to tease some trade unionists who tried to uphold labour rights as I always thought they were politicians.
The course greatly improved the way I view trade unionists. It also helped to give me the courage and dedication to write objective and factual labour rights stories without fear or in favour of anyone who has violated rights.
The course has really improved my journalism skills and my personal relationship with trade unionists and employers as they now realise I know what I am writing about.
Last but not least, I would like to convey my sincere gratitude to the training team at ITCILO and ILO Geneva who made our stay so pleasant and memorable.
