Success story: Burkina Faso
From a participant in the course entitled “The global development agenda: tools for gender-sensitive planning and implementation"
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am pleased to inform you that the “With the Women” association, set up after I had followed your course on “The global development agenda: tools for gender-sensitive planning and implementation" from June to September 2009, has attained official recognition.
The association’s goal is to help promote equality of the sexes and women’s autonomy in Burkina Faso.
It has these specific aims:
To empower women, especially the most vulnerable among them: poor women, girls, rural women and single mothers.
To promote women’s fundamental rights and positive discrimination in favour of women and girls.
To raise men and women’s awareness and consideration of gender at family and community level.
To lobby decision-makers to consider gender within development institutions, policies, projects and programmes.
We are currently working on a project that we might call “Gender excellence at the temple of knowledge”. Its aim is cross-cutting gender integration at Ougadougou University. It will be an action-research project with a participatory approach. Training and advocacy will seek to overcome the gender problems revealed by a participatory diagnosis.
