Technical cooperation to promote freedom of association and collective bargaining

The First Global Meeting on Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining is taking place on campus from 25 to 28 November

It will provide a unique opportunity to share information, knowledge and experience, to improve the implementation of technical cooperation on freedom of association and collective bargaining, and discuss ways forward to strengthen its relevance and impact.  Indeed, these fundamental rights are still not enjoyed by millions around the world, and where these rights are recognized, there continue to be challenges in applying them.

This first global meeting will bring together Chief Technical Advisors and National Project Coordinators from more than fifteen ILO technical cooperation projects on freedom of association and collective bargaining rights, as well as a number of ILO specialists and international consultants.

Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining enable the creation of decent conditions at work and are major tools for labour market governance.

Freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining are particularly important to the attainment of the four ILO strategic objectives that provide the basis of the Decent Work Agenda, i.e., creating jobs, guaranteeing rights at work, extending social protection, and promoting social dialogue.
