Young generations raise their voice against child labour
The final event of the “Scream in Action” project for Turin took place in town today. “Scream” is an ILO/IPEC project to raise awareness of child labour through education, media and the arts. The Turin project, run by the NGO “Young Frontiers”, with the support of the Province of Turin and the Piedmont Region, involved 15 schools and the “Ferrante Aporti” children’s home.
During the event, over 600 students and teachers presented their own works of art (paintings, videos, music, shows and more) to local authorities. Our colleague Blerina Vila made a speech (LINK) on behalf of the ILO and its Turin Centre highlighting the benefits of education and training (such as the courses run by the Centre) as essential support for the global alliance against child labour. The event was both lively and moving; in particular, the participants were deeply moved by a letter written by a group of young girls, who had been trapped into one of the worst forms of child labour and who are currently hosted by a local children’s home in Turin.
