Gender issues are in the mainstream of all our training activities. The Gender and Non-Discrimination Programme has developed a strategy with which to mainstream gender not only in the Centre's training activities but also in its in-house working processes.
Our areas of expertise:
Mainstreaming gender equality in the world of work A comprehensive training programme provides methodology, analysis and tools for integrating gender equality issues into all aspects of work.
Gender, Poverty and Employment A special programme analyses the relationship between gender, poverty and employment. It focuses on integrating gender and employment promotion into sustainable anti-poverty policies. Gender Auditing Gender audits are important for promoting gender equality within an institution. The ILO audit methodology uses self-assessment to stimulate organizational learning about how to mainstream gender effectively.
Public and private sectors Despite progress, gender remains a source of discrimination in employment. Decent work for all entails equal opportunities and equal access. Our training emphasizes the equity dimension of employment policies, especially the use of sex-specific labour market information.
Our training for the public sector focuses on removing obstacles to women's advancement such as rigid career ladders and organizational failure to adapt to workers with family responsibilities.
For the private sector, we promote training for women entrepreneurs, advisers and managers, even in the informal sector. ILS, equality in employment and gender equality Adopting International Labour Standards (ILS) helps to redress inequalities between women and men at work. ILS provide guidelines on rights of women workers, non-discrimination and workers with family responsibilities.
Local development with a gender perspective Local development goes beyond the purely economic context to boost human and social development. It includes a gender perspective in which participation by all is a condition for sustainable development.
Social dialogue and gender Social dialogue among workers, employers and government also calls for a gender approach. Our training focuses on gender and collective bargaining, negotiation skills for women or conciliation and mediation.
Gender issues in public employment services Public employment services play a central role in implementing gender equality policies. We train front-line workers from employment offices in early detection of gender discrimination, including sexual harassment, and in promoting equal access to work, training and career advancement.
Equal participation by women and men in family life and work Based on a survey on Family and Work Conciliation, as perceived by workers and employers, and through an agreement among social partners on Working Time and Organisation of Work, a specific project aims at redesigning existing care services. Different roles in the organisation of family life and work are introduced by means of a training project focusing on the culture of conciliation.
