Poverty reduction

From an ILO perspective, reducing poverty depends on increasing the number of women and men engaged in productive work. We therefore run training activities on subjects like collecting labour market information and labour market analysis, both of which are important steps in devising policies that tackle unemployment and under-employment.

Other training activities present good practice in improving conditions of work in the informal economy, or go into the nuts and bolts of micro-credit or micro-insurance. We also offer a training package that explores the links among poverty, employment and gender.

We also attack poverty through activities on workers' rights, social dialogue and social protection.

Moreover, on request, we provide training to support the design and implementation of comprehensive national poverty reduction strategies.

Activities in this area of expertise are conducted by the following training units:

Standards and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
Employment and Skills Development
Enterprise Development
Social Protection
Workers' Activities
Gender Coordination and Non-Discrimination Unit
