Why Turin
The ILO chose Turin for its training centre because the city was a front-runner in economic development at the heart of Europe.

A further major factor was the Italian Government's offer to let the ILO use the premises which had housed an exhibition commemorating the centenary of Italian unity in 1961. Leading contemporary architects had designed the buildings. The park that housed the "Regional Pavilions" was transformed to provide all the amenities of a modern campus.
Turin also offers insights into how the world of work can adapt to the challenges of globalization and the transition to a post-industrial economy. Major companies abound, and the local small business sector offers interesting case studies of innovation and development, often used for study visits.
The city of Turin also houses other major training, academic and research institutions with whom the Centre pools expertise and training resources for specific courses or events. More information here.
