The ILO works for the achievement of priorities and targets set by its African constituents. It emphasizes Decent Work Country Programmes and collaboration with partner agencies to implement the Decent Work Agenda for Africa.
Its capacity-building programmes strengthen institutions at regional and national levels in order to create conditions conducive to achieving full and productive employment and decent work for all.
The ITC-ILO plays a crucial role in this regard. It offers training courses on all subjects relevant to decent work on the continent. For Africa, in addition to standard courses, it runs tailor-made courses on priority areas, such as:
- a “social protection floor”;
- women’s employment and youth employment;
- labour administration and social dialogue;
- strengthening the capacities of employers’ organizations and workers’ organizations;
- labour market information;
- fundamental principles and rights at work;
- investing in enterprises and decent work opportunities in Africa;
- escaping the informal economy trap.
The ITC-ILO also builds strategic partnerships with training institutions in Africa, with development agencies and with UN sister organizations. Together, they design and set up capacity-building and knowledge-sharing platforms.
