International labour standards

International labour standards (ILS) are legal instruments that establish basic minimum social standards agreed upon by governments, employers and workers. ILS cover all matters related to work and are backed up by a supervisory system designed to deal with all sorts of problems in their application at the national level.

In today's global economy, ILS establish the international legal framework for ensuring that globalization and development provide benefits to all.

All our training touches explicitly or implicitly upon ILS. In particular, it aims to: strengthen participation by governments, employers and workers in the standards system; improve the application of ILS; enhance the capacity of national authorities to draw upon standards in producing legislation and case law; and strengthen the link between ILS application and economic and social development.

For further information about our training in this area of expertise, please go to the website of the Standards and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work Programme.
