DelNet (support to local development and decentralization)
National governments are no longer alone in dealing with the political, economic and social variables that determine national development. Decentralization and devolution place greater responsibility on local communities and civil society, and offer them new opportunities. New institutions have been created and grass-roots organizations now play a prominent role in development.
We contribute to national, regional and local capacity to manage development by providing training, knowledge management and networking opportunities through a local development support programme known as DelNet that makes intensive use of information and communication technology (ICT). The programme includes:
- ICT-based courses leading to certification as an expert on local development
- access to a specialized virtual library, databases, newsletters, electronic working papers and handbooks, and networking opportunities
- advice concerning on-the-job training and technical guidance.
