Asia and the Pacific
Some countries in Asia and the Pacific are making strong economic progress; others face major challenges. For all countries, the promotion of decent work is the goal of the International Labour Organization. Decent work means employment with social protection, having a voice through social dialogue, and international labour standards being respected.
The ILO’s International Training Centre works in and with Asia and the Pacific to strengthen the capacity of governments, workers’ organizations, employers’ organizations and other civil society bodies to solve problems, and to devise policies and manage systems that promote decent work. It does so through training.
In 2008, 2048 people from Asian and Pacific countries took part in our training. We hold courses in Turin, in many different countries and on-line. Training takes place in English, sometimes with simultaneous interpretation into national languages. Our priority topics for Asia and the Pacific include:
-
labour migration;
-
youth employment;
-
vocational training systems and skills development;
-
enterprise development and microfinance;
-
improvement of working conditions and productivity;
-
industrial relations;
-
child labour and forced labour.
