The promotion of Decent Work features prominently in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted at the UN Summit on Sustainable Development held in New York in September 2015.

Explicitly linked to goal 8 of the SDGs, the promotion of Decent Work is also implicitly referenced under many targets linked to the other sixteen goals. The training activities of the Centre aim to strengthen the capacity of ILO constituents and other relevant stakeholders to analyse the link between Decent Work and Sustainable Development and to formulate and implement strategies and approaches to make Decent Work for All a reality.

At the Centre, challenges and prospects on non-standard forms of employment are analyzed during the ILS Academy

Over the past few decades, in both industrialized and developing countries, there has been a marked shift away from “standard” (i.e. full-time, open-ended, direct) employment to non-standard forms of employment. In developing countries, non-standard workers have always constituted a substantial proportion of the labour force, but non-standard employment has also grown in segments of the labour market previously associated with standard jobs. Enterprise, Microfinance and Local Development

The Enterprise, Microfinance and Local Development Programme uses the knowledge base of the ILO globally to design academies, courses and training packages. Training courses and academies focus on disseminating good practices and sound methodologies. Training draws on the expertise of the global team of ILO enterprise development and social finance specialists.

Sustainable Development Programme

Referring simultaneously to the broad definition of sustainable development adopted by the United Nations, which postulates an intrinsic relation between economic, social and environmental well-being, SDP takes as a more concrete starting point the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
