Description

This training course supports practitioners working with refugee communities in the design of livelihood interventions based on a solid understanding of market trends and demand. It applies the "Making markets work for the poor" (M4P) approach and draws upon the experiences and lessons learnt from joint UNHCR-ILO pilot projects that have tested the added value of market assessments and value-chain analyses in promoting the livelihoods of refugees in different countries.

This training is of interest to anybody working at the intersection of humanitarian and development programming. It specifically targets practitioners responsible for livelihood activities in their own countries and projects.

Participants at previous editions of this training included staff from CARE International, UNHCR, CGAP, Belgian Development Agency, CARITAS, IFRC, Danish Refugee Council, Norwegian Refugee Council, IOM and many more.

Format and Methodology

Format and Methodology

The 2019 edition features for the first time a 10 day training programme that includes a basic and advanced module.
You can choose to attend (1) the first week and receive basic training on market-based livelihood interventions, (2) the second week and follow the advanced training programme or (3) come for the full 10 day training programme.

This training combines expert input with applied learning methodologies. Participants will be exposed to variety of learning methods, including expert presentations, group-work and case studies, to ensure a high-quality learning experience. 

The training team consists of M4P experts who bring real-life programming expertise to the class room and learning specialists who will facilitate a learner-centred training programme.
