Julia Lear is an attorney who started her career practicing law in the US defending workers’ rights. Before joining the ILO, she worked for the WHO regional office in Copenhagen. Julia currently works for the Sectoral Policies Department as the legal and health specialist with the maritime and transport unit. She organized two tripartite Meetings of Experts to adopt guidelines for implementing the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 on the topics of occupational safety and health, and the training of ships’ cooks. In preparation for the ILC 2016 general discussion on decent work in global supply chains, Julia drafted an unpublished background report which served as the basis for much of Chapter 4 of the report for discussion on Governance in GSCs. During the conference she served on the secretariat.
