HIV and AIDS and the world of work: ILO Tools to Adopt a Gender- Sensitive Workplace Response.

The International Training Centre of the ILO offers courses on HIV and AIDS and the world of work.

AIDS is not over yet.

Over 37 million people are living with HIV globally.  It is the leading cause of death among women aged 15-49. Stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS still persist.

Despite the progress made in the AIDS response, a lot of work still needs to be done to achieve the SDG 3 of ending AIDS as a public health threat.

The world of work can play a critical role in the AIDS response, by reducing discrimination and ensuring that people are not denied the right to work, especially women and girls as gender is an important determinant of health. But how can this be done exactly? What are the policy standards to be followed? And what have been the real success stories?

Participants in the Gender Academy 2017 were able to tackle these questions in various workshops, but also in 2018 the International Training Centre of the ILO will offer a course on HIV and AIDS in the world of work.

In a very inter-active and engaging workshop, participants will:

  • navigate through the rights-based and gender-transformative policies and programmes to HIV in the world of work;
  • successfully adapt and apply HIV prevention models, covering formal and informal economies, public-private partnerships and meaningful engagement of people living with HIV;
  • understand and apply social protection approaches and models, appreciating their importance in promoting health, well-being, equity and diversity within the workplace.
