Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- understand and address key issues related to refugees’ access to labour markets, including gender-specific aspects;
- understand the strategic importance of partnerships with national and international actors in addressing refugee situations;
- define the terms of access to labour markets for refugees that also meet the needs of the local workforce;
- understand the importance of addressing these issues through strengthening enabling environments for decent work and livelihoods for host communities that also benefit refugees and other forcibly displaced persons;
- analyze and utilize the ILO’s international labour standards and tools to effectively protect refugees’ rights at work;
- improve capacity for the effective recognition and development of refugees’ skills, including through Recognition of Prior Learning;
- develop mechanisms to identify and address informality and support the transition of enterprises into the formal economy, including refugee-owned enterprises;
- recognize the pivotal role of social dialogue and the meaningful engagement of trade unions and employers’ organizations in the protection of refugees’ rights and conditions at work;
- gain insight into methods of improving occupational safety and health standards in the workplace to the benefit of nation and refugee workers;
- apply the ILO’s decent work principles in policies and programmes that will benefit host and refugee communities.
