Description

Description

Learning Analytics is the collection and analysis of data about learners and their contexts, the aim being to understand and optimiz learning experiences and the environments in which they occur. The main objective is to uncover hitherto hidden information in educational data, so as to gain new insights and prepare the information for different educational stakeholders (learners, trainers and managers). This information can support individual learning and enhance facilitation and training quality, as well as improving organizational knowledge management and system administration. Compilation of Learning Analytics involves various pre-processing steps using basic information models, such as data-harvesting, storing, cleaning, anonymization, analysis, mining and visualization. The aim of this course is to contextualize the most important dimensions of Learning Analytics. The course will demonstrate why Learning Analytics can be a real game-changer in educational research, enhancing e-learning experiences and creating more effective e-learning environments by helping to predict learners' performance, providing learners with a personalized learning experience, increasing retention rates and boosting cost efficiency. It will also touch on the ethical and privacy issues associated with Learning Analytics, that need to be discussed within potential target organizations to ensure stakeholder adoption and uptake.
