This course provides insights into a systemic management approach and discusses the practical concepts and skills needed for the management of vocational training centres.

Target audience

Target audience

Directors of vocational training centres, policymakers and technical staff of Ministries of Labour and Education, national TVET authorities or similar institutions; representatives of workers' and employers' organizations.

Objectives

Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will have strengthened their technical knowledge as well as their analytical and managerial capacity to improve the functioning of vocational training centres.

In particular participants will have:

  • strengthened their understanding of management concepts
  • reviewed management of vocational training centres from a systemic perspective;
  • examined management problems related to the different aspects of operating a vocational training centre;
  • analysed bottlenecks and challenges at the level of their own training centres;
  • identified the main elements for responding and relating to the demands and the different actors in the environment of vocational training centres.

The course will cover the following contents:

  • Management concepts: a systemic approach to management of vocational training centres in the context of increasing institutional autonomy.
  • Leadership and staff development: management roles and competencies, staff development.
  • Developing and managing the learning process: Skills needs anticipation, development of educational programmes, student management, monitoring and evaluation, quality management.
  • Asset management: diversifying financial resources, developing a business plan, infrastructure and facility management.
  • The environment of a training centre: Creating relationships with the local industry, public-private partnerships, stakeholder management.
  • Analysis and priorities: analyzing internal and external factors, identifying strengths and weaknesses, setting priorities and developing ideas for the development of their centres' portfolio.

During the course, the “Turin Learning Approach” will be applied: Dynamic, interactive and learner-centred methodologies will be used to convey contents and stimulate the exchange of experience. Lectures will alternate with practical exercises, discussions, group work, knowledge sharing methodologies, case studies and individual assignments. 

Language requirements

Language requirements

The course languages are English and Spanish. Most presentations will be delivered in English with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish. At some instances, sessions will be organised in parallel in separate language tracks. Participants should have a good command of either English or Spanish and be able to understand written material and to freely engage in discussions in one of these languages.

Course costs and fellowships

Course costs and fellowships

The total cost of this course is € 2,215 per participant. This comprises:

  • Training fees: training materials, course preparation, implementation, evaluation and emergency medical insurance;
  • Subsistence costs: full board and lodging at the training venue.

ITC-ILO has a limited number of partial fellowships of Euro 800.- each available. To receive a fellowship, please enquire early!

•  An official sponsorship letter issued by their organization (or a donor organization) stating that it will cover:

–   The cost of the course of € 2,215 (in case of application for a fellowship the remaining amount of € 1,415)

–   the international travel between the country of origin and the Turin Centre.

Only candidates who present both, the online registration and the sponsorship letter, will be accepted.

Institutions that do not have enough funds to cover the course costs or the air fare might wish to seek co- funding by donor institutions in their own countries. ITCILO does not provide assistance in contacting donors.

The course fee does not include the cost of international travel between the country of origin and Turin.

Participants are responsible for obtaining the necessary Schengen visa. Visa applications should be made at least four weeks in advance.
