Description

This course will provide participants with an overview of different dispute resolution systems. The course will explore how countries can put in place modern and effective mechanisms for dispute prevention and resolution in line with ILO standards.

Target audience

Target audience

Ministry of labour officials, government officials, officials from dispute resolution agencies, employers' and workers' representatives, industrial relations practitioners, ILO and international organization officials.

Objectives

The general objective of the course is to improve participants knowledge of effective mechanisms of labour dispute prevention and resolution.
More specifically, at the end of the course, participants will have:
• A better understanding of the role of Labour Ministries and dispute resolution agencies regarding labour dispute prevention and resolution.
• An increased knowledge on recent trends and new developments in the area of labour dispute prevention and resolution.
• An increased knowledge of ILO standards and activities in the area of labour dispute prevention and resolution.

Content

The course will be based on the content of the guide “Labour dispute system: guidelines for improved performance” which has been developed jointly by the ILO and the ITC/ILO. All participants will receive a hard copy of the guide.

Methodology

The methodology used will be highly participatory and will build on the experience and knowledge of participants. The course will combine experts’ presentations, group work and group discussions. Most of the sessions will be delivered by senior officials from Labour Ministries; labour dispute agencies and ILO officials.

Participants are expected to have a good command of English.

The cost of participation (2,215 Euros) should be paid in advance by the participant or his/her sponsoring organisation. Participants will be provided with full board accommodation with private facilities at the ITC/ILO Campus, routine medical care and medical insurance.
