Description

Description

The significance of labour migration for development has been gaining prominence in global, continental, regional and national discourse. Conflict, political instability, weak governance, economic failure, environmental crises, natural disasters and structurally high unemployment, particularly among young people and women in Africa, have all contributed to a profound transformation of migration flows in recent years. The role of African workers' organizations in supporting harmonized, rights-based approaches to labour migration that leverage existing international instruments and aspects of Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development therefore becomes very critical. This course aims to enhance workers' organizations capacities in providing advocacy and influencing/formulating/promoting rights-based labour migration policies. The course will also enable workers' organizations to be more inclusive in their representation of labour migration issues and in promoting rights-based labour migration policies as part of the national agenda for development.

Target audience

Target audience

This course is for officials from workers' organizations below the age of 45 responsible for research and policy advocacy, including young men and women activists directly responsible for programmes to promote migrants' and vulnerable workers' rights in their organizations.
