61st FICSA Council opens in Turin

From 4 to 8 February, the ILO Training Centre is hosting the 61st Council of the Federation of International Civil Servants Associations (FICSA).

Over 120 delegates, including about 70 different nationalities, representing the Staff Unions of 47 organizations in the United Nations system, are meeting in Turin to discuss issues affecting civil servants around the world, in particular their safety: in 2007 alone, some 40 UN officials lost their lives while attending to their duties, and many others live and work in difficult conditions. The choice of the UN campus in Turin for the 2008 FICSA Council was influenced by its growing importance within the UN System, as shown by the two recent visits of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, and by its renovated facilities, which provide a high level of comfort and services.
