Elsa Fornero, a Turin Centre friend and collaborator, appointed Italian Welfare Minister

From 2000 to 2010, Ms Fornero collaborated with the Turin Centre as an expert on the Italian pension system

Elsa Fornero is Professor of Economics at the University of Turin, specializing in macroeconomics and the economics of savings and pensions.  She is the director of CeRP, the Center for Research on Pensions and Welfare Policies, the first institution specifically focusing on the study of pensions and welfare policies in Italy.

She is also a member of the steering committees of the Italian Association of Economists, of the doctoral programme at the University of Turin, of the Scientific Committees, of Confindustria (the association of industrial firms), of the Mario Gasbarri Foundation and of the research committee of INPRS (International Network of Pension Regulators and Supervisors).

She has now been appointed Welfare Minister in the new Italian government.

She holds other memberships and her fields of research cover health economics, unemployment and the distribution of income. In recent years, she has chosen to specialize in the area of household savings, public and private pensions and life insurance.

Since 2000, she has contributed her knowledge of the above topics to training activities delivered to French, English and Russian-speaking groups at the Centre. Participants in Ms Fornero’s sessions benefitted greatly from her unrivalled professional knowledge.

Congratulations, Ms Fornero!
