Inauguration of the 2017 Academic Year at the ITCILO Turin School of Development (TSD)

Today, 6 March, marks the inauguration of the 2017 Academic Year at the Turin School of Development, whose programme includes all the Masters Programmes organized by the ILO International Training Centre in conjunction with the University and Polytechnic of Turin.

The ceremony, to be attended by Amb. Maurizio Enrico Serra, Permanent Representative, Permanent Mission of Italy to the International Organizations in Geneva, Cons. Benedetto Giuntini, Directorate-General for Italians abroad and Migration Policies, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prof. Francesco Profumo, President of Compagnia di San Paolo, is being held at the ITCILO Piemonte Conference Centre.

Over the past 20 years, with the involvement of many UN agencies and renowned universities and thanks to the support of Compagnia di San Paolo and other sponsors, the School has gradually increased the number of Masters Programmes offered.

In 2017, it will organize ten Masters in subjects such as international commerce, development management, intellectual property, cultural projects and world heritage, public procurement management, labour economics, industrial and employment relations, and health and safety at work.

Since the first course was organized in 1991, more than 2500 students from all over the world have gained a Master diploma here in Turin.

Dr Giuseppe Casale, Director of the TSD and Deputy Director of the ITCILO states: “The TSD is fully embedded into the training programmes of the Centre and for each Master the comparative advantage of the Centre as a global knowledge hub, combined with regional and national expertise, is further enhanced. The education and advocacy of the TSD are based on the principles and values of the ILO and the UN, and promotes new generational expertise at global level, even more so after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In particular, the TSD promotes Goal 8 (“..sustained, inclusive and sustainable growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”). The TSD will offer customised executive certificates aimed at dealing with the challenges of future of work.”.
