Learning and Technology Innovation for Capacity Development at the Centre

Technology transforming learning: reinventing learning environments for the world of work

Learning technologies, knowledge-sharing platforms, communities of practice and mobile applications are more and more commonly used in the world of work and at the Centre. However, the expertise and methodological know-how required for designing and implementing technology-enhanced learning are not always available. For this reason, the Centre, in conjunction with the Open University of the Netherlands and Goethe University Frankfurt, has developed a dedicated Online Programme in Innovative Learning Interventions. Professionals with a capacity-building function can now explore the latest technology and innovations and see how they could enhance the impact of the projects they are launching.

Technology is no longer just one aspect of learning resources. It can play a key role in all parts of the training and learning environment, shaping and reshaping learners and trainers’ roles. For instance, open educational resources make knowledge and content more easily accessible. The benefits of engagement, interactivity and collaboration are enhanced by technology, and so is the capacity of training institutions to achieve these desirable outcomes.

The term “innovation” refers to new or improved technological products and processes which can influence how individuals and organizations invest in achieving their objectives. Concepts such as Open Online Education, Trusted Learning Analytics, Mobile and Seamless Learning, and Immersive and Augmented-Reality Learning Experiences are examples of how integrated technology can make capacity development more impactful by rooting solutions in empathy with end users and enhancing access to educational opportunities.

The Online Diploma Programme in Innovative Learning Interventions aims to exploit the potential of:

  • Trusted Learning Analytics, to improve the measurement, compilation and reporting of data about individuals for the purposes of understanding and optimizing learning experiences;
  • Mobile and Seamless Learning, by using personal devices to engage in social and content interactions across multiple learning and work contexts;
  • Open Online Education paths, to eliminate entry barriers to educational opportunities and broaden access to capacity development;
  • Immersive and Augmented-Reality Learning Experiences, to encourage and transform engagement and interaction between individuals and environments.
