New year, new objectives for “Media for Labour Rights”
The ITC-ILO training programme on international labour standards for journalists is developing further! In addition to the interregional course that brings media professionals from all over the world to Turin every year, several training courses are now held at regional, sub-regional and national levels.
After the first regional course for journalists from Arab countries in late 2009, a group of Latin American journalists will take part in a workshop in Lima from 18 to 22 January 2010.
Another training activity will take place in Kinshasa for journalists from the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 25 to 28 January 2010.
Colleagues in ILO field offices and HQ are providing support. The course in Lima is being held in conjunction with the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, whereas the training activity in Kinshasa is in conjunction with the ILO's Department of Communications and Public Information (DCOMM) and the Offices in Kinshasa and Yaounde.
Around forty media professionals from Latin America and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will be trained in these activities.
Some 130 journalists have already been trained. All those trained will be eligible for the third "Media for Labour Rights" international journalistic competition, for which the prize is a grant to follow the International Labour Conference in Geneva next June.
