ITC-ILO / Brazil Training Programme: distance training course on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Local Development”, from June 2011 to February 2012
As part of the Training Programme on humanitarian aid, disaster prevention and post-disaster social and natural recovery, financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Brazil, the first distance-learning course in Portuguese on Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Local Development has just been launched.
The main aim of the course is to promote disaster-reduction policies within the context of sustainable local development processes and participative strategic development, strengthening the capacities of local authorities and socio-economic players, to facilitate their involvement in disaster risk reduction and climate change.
This first course will count 24 specialists and managers working at central and local levels in Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Mozambique.
Always in the framework of this Programme, later this year the Turin Centre will carry out
- a training activity on disaster risk reduction and local economic recovery in Haiti, and
- a regional seminar in Mozambique, bringing together risk management specialists and officials in charge of territorial development strategies in all Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa.
