The Director of the Centre meets the Irish President
On Monday 23 November 2015, the President of Ireland, Mr Michael D. Higgins, visited the International Labour Organization (ILO), where a formal meeting with Mr Guy Ryder, the Director General, had been arranged. He also met with Irish staff members of the ILO.
Michael D. Higgins is the ninth President of Ireland, a passionate political voice, as well as poet and writer, an academic, a statesman and a strong human rights advocate.
The Director of the Centre, Ms Patricia O’Donovan, attended the ILO welcoming ceremony and met the President.
Last February, Ms O’Donovan accompanied the ILO Director-General to Dublin, where the Irish President gave the Second Phelan Memorial Lecture celebrating the work of Waterford’s Edward Phelan, Director-General of the ILO from 1941 to 1948.
