UN AS ONE
The ITCILO has signed a UN Agency to UN Agency contribution agreement with the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) for the organization of four training events.
So far, three events have been hosted on campus:
- a first workshop on SDG indicators 5.a.1 (Women’s ownership of agricultural land) and 5.a.2 (Women’s equal rights to land ownership), from 26 to 28 February 2018;
- a second workshop on SDG indicators 2.3.1 (Volume of production per labour unit by classes of farming/pastoral/forestry enterprise size) and 2.3.2 (Average income of small-scale food producers, by sex and indigenous status), on 20 and 21 March 2018;
- a third workshop on SDG indicator 2.a.1 (Agriculture Orientation Index for Government Expenditures), on 27 and 28 March 2018.
Providing statistical capacity development support to national governments is one of the chief responsibilities of the FAO as custodian agency for these indicators.
Participants have been trained to a leveI enabling them to collect the necessary data and compute the SDG indicator for themselves, for it to then be reported to the FAO. This is consistent with the fundamental principle of the SDG reporting mechanism, whereby data should be produced as far as possible by countries themselves, while international organizations validate and harmonize the country-related data and produce regional and global aggregates.
