At the outset, we would like to thank the Centre, for organizing the programme on "Managing interpersonal workplace conflict", and the donor who made it possible for me to attend.
We wish to extend our deepest appreciation to the Centre’s officials and collaborators for their input, which has helped our Union to move from a situation of mistrust, miscommunication and confrontation to a more constructive, needs-focussed approach.
As well as providing us with practical experience, the course has supported the Union in achieving more effective and sustainable outcomes.
We are delighted to share with you one recent exceptional outcome that has benefited the Union: the successful conclusion of our 17th NUBE/MCBA (Malayan Commercial Bank Association) Collective Agreement.
This is the fastest ever settlement of a Collective Agreement (CA) in the Union's 15-year history, simply because the leadership used the skills and behaviours they were taught for effective conflict management.
This settlement has been achieved with minimum cost and better returns in terms of goodwill from the management and enhancement of benefits for all non-executives of the commercial banks in Malaysia, which employ 23,000 workers.
This historical CA was officially signed on 3rd November 2015 after a constructive bargaining process conducted in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding, thanks to improved interpersonal skills.
Our intention in sharing this testimony is firstly to tell you how happy and grateful we are, and also to encourage you to run further courses to benefit other future participants.
Once again, thank you and very best wishes.
