The members of the team are:
Born in Ecuador, holds an industrial engineering degree from the Georgias Institute of Technology in Atlanta, and post graduate diplomas in Agroindustrial Management at the INCAE School of Business in Costa Rica. He is a certified consultant on export promotion by the CBI- in the Netherlands.
For over 17 years he was entrepreneur in the aquaculture sector and in the construction sector in a family enterprise.
Long standing experience in working for employers organizations, holding high Executive positions at the National Chamber of Aquaculture, National Association of Banana Exporters and the Chamber of Industries.
From 2005-2006 he joined the public sector, first as the Vice Minister of Industries and later as the Minister of Industries, Trade, Fisheries and Competitiveness.
In September 2007 he joined the ILO as the Employers’ Activities Specialist for the Andean Countries in Lima, Peru. In October 2012 he became the Regional Employers’ Specialist for Latin America and the Caribbean. In May 2016, he started as Employers’ Activities Program Manager at the ILO International Training Centre in Turin.
Jeanne Schmitt (temporary on secondment at ILO office in Pretoria till August 2018)
Jeanne Schmitt is Senior Programme Officer. She designs and conducts training activities for Business Member Organizations' (BMOs) staff and company members on various aspects linked to association management, policy influence and outreach to private sector in Africa, Asia and Europe. Women empowerment through BMOs is another field of strong interest. For the last 10 years, she has been in charge of the overall management of larger capacity-building projects for sector organizations / on global supply chains issues.
She co-authored a series of training guides and developed elearning tools on topics such as lobbying and advocacy, services provision, social dialogue, CSR & Business and Human Rights. More recently, she has been developing and managing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Board members of BMOs.
Jeanne previously worked with BUSINESSEUROPE, the European employer confederation, as Senior Adviser for Social Affairs in charge of industrial relations and social dialogue matters. Prior to joining BUSINESSEUROPE, she worked in a consultancy company on international projects.
She holds master degrees in Labour Law (DEA, University of Nanterre / France) and European law (LL.M., University of Dresden / Germany). Her working languages are English, French and German.
Paolo is Programme Officer. He is in charge of designing and running training activities and managing projects in Latin America and Southern Africa. He has contributed as co-author to research papers, guides and training packages in the fields of Youth employment policies, Conducive environment for sustainable enterprises, Macroeconomic policies, Occupational Safety and Health and Social partners’ involvement in DWCP. He is expert in resource mobilization and project design.
Paolo holds a MSc in Economics (core topics Labour Economics and Econometrics) from CORIPE Piedmont and a MSc in International Relations with a specialization in Economic Development and Aid from Turin University. Mr. Salvai speaks Italian, English, French and Spanish.
Sandro is Programme Officer at the ACT/EMP ITCILO. In this role, he follows and researches developments in specific technical areas and supports the ACT/EMP ITCILO team in delivering training programmes and activities on a series of topics, including strengthening capacity of employers' organisations, business and human rights, corporate social responsibility.
Prior to joining ACT/EMP ITCILO, Sandro was responsible for the Global Public Affairs portfolio of the World Employment Confederation, the global organisation representing the employment and recruitment industry around the world.
Sandro holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Florence (Italy), and a specialisation in American Studies from the Smith College (MA, USA). He speaks Italian, English and French.
Barbara Maino is Programme Assistant within the Programme for Employers' Activities. She has joined the ITCILO in 2001 after having worked with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC). She holds a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the Univeristy of Turin, Italy and speaks English, Spanish, French and Italian.
Rachida Zingara is Course Assistant. She’s working since 2000 for the ITCILO. She holds a degree in communication and Public relations from the "Université d’Alger – Ecole des Sciences de l’information et de la communication". Ms Zingara speaks Arabic, French, English and Italian.
Irene Panizzolo (presently in maternity leave)
Irene Panizzolo is Course Assistant. She’s working since 2011 for the ITCILO. Before working with the ITCILO, she was a wedding planner in Mexico where she lived for 10 years. Ms Panizzolo speaks English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Italian.
Alexandra Giordano is Course Assistant. She has been collaborating with ITCILO since 2014. She graduated in economics from the Moscow Institute of Business and Law and languages from the University of the Russian Academy of Education. Alexandra is fluent in Russian, English and Italian.
Francesca Gaglia is Course Assistant. She joined the team in 2017 after having worked with the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC). She holds a MA in Foreign Languages in International Communication from the University of Turin, Italy. Ms Gaglia speaks Italian, English, Spanish and she is learning Russian.
