Capacity Building Workshop for 9 Asian countries in New Delhi
In partnership with CIETT, the ITCILO Programme for Employers' Activities led a capacity-building workshop in Dehli, India, on 24 May 2016. Participants were representatives of national federations of private employment agencies from 9 different Asian countries.
The New Dehli capacity building workshop was a follow-up to another one hosted on 3 and 4 March 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. It was co-organised by CIETT and the ITCILO, and was part of the ILO Fair Recruitment Initiative. The workshop aimed at strengthening the role of national federations of private employment agencies in 9 countries: Jordan, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia.
Together with CIETT, the ITCILO offered support, guidance and advice on how to professionalize national federations of recruitment agencies to ensure that international recruitment is done ethically and without fee-charging to workers, in line with ILO Convention n°181.
The event gathered 36 people, representing Ciett members, recruitment agencies of many different countries, ILO officials and other partners.
Building further on the issue of responsible recruitment and on the link between a strong national federation and the improvement of the quality of standard for the industry, the workshop looked specifically at how to establish and effectively run services for members. A strong focus was put on exchanging experiences and learning from each other in this area.
