In 1997 the global community established that gender mainstreaming entails "bringing the perceptions, experience, knowledge and interests of women as well as men to bear on policy-making, planning and decision-making". We know that women are disproportionately affected by violence and harassment, including in the world of work, and therefore that shedding light on gender- as well as power-based dynamics is fundamental towards fully understanding this phenomenon and devising ways to put a stop to it. This training aims to shed light on the masculinities' point of observation onto violence and harassment as well as the dynamics underlying it, thus bringing the perceptions, experience, and knowledge of men and boys, as well as women and girls, at the centre of the discussion. How are men and boys affected by violence and by the gender stereotypes and norms often underlying it? How can we go beyond the victim-perpetrator categorization to promote a more systemic understanding of the causes of GBV? What are transformative masculinities and the voices currently representing them across the globe? How can they make a difference in breaking the cycle of bias, harmful stereotypes and unequal power relations?
