The Employers Young Professionals’ Academy starts again!!
For the fourth time since 2012 this comprehensive training series managed by the Employers’ Programme of the ITCILO in partnership with BUSINESSEUROPE and benefiting from EU funding has been kicked off in Turin.
The Academy’s objective is to strengthen the capacity of European Employers’ organizations through the training of their high-potential staff on core issues and skills such as lobbying and communication, negotiations, macroeconomics, social dialogue and of course the European policies and decision-making processes.
From the 27th to the 29th of April 35 young professionals from 26 different European Employers’ Organizations came together for the first seminar of the Employers’ Young Professionals’ Academy. With the workshop “Being the voice of Business” the participants gained a systematic insight into advocacy and lobbying processes to influence policy development at EU and national levels and got to know each other in a dynamic, creative and relaxed atmosphere.
The participants received valuable information from the Deputy Director General of BUSINESSEUROPE Jérôme Chauvin during a video conference, where he was referring to the future trends and challenges of European Employers Organizations. They also used this opportunity to ask questions concerning the use of Social Media in Employers’ Organizations or general advice on handling their members.
After various presentations and group exercises on useful lobbying practices on EU level or setting up a lobbying strategy the young professionals were able to translate their theoretical knowledge into practice through a simulation game. By either playing the role of interest groups or European politicians participants tried to lobby for their interests and simultaneously strengthened their lobbying and communication skills.
The participants will meet again in June and September to attend the workshops on “Advocating for growth” and “Engaging as social partners” and will continue to learn from each other and share their experience on working in an Employers’ Organization.
