This course deals with the topic of open education and Massive Open Online Courses. In a nutshell, the course explores theoretical and applied issues related to how the internet and networking technologies have led to new learning models mediated by digital resources. For learners, open education offers an alternative path to competence development and professionalization, beyond the traditional borders of educational institutions. Learners enter and engage in open educational practices in order to meet, network and collaborate with their peers in working, learning and innovating. The course draws on theories of situated and networked learning and provides an overview of the different design and evaluation challenges for open learning contexts. The course offers activities that will help learners to build a theoretical foundation, provides instruments for designing and conceptualizing open online education opportunities (MOOCs) and, last but not least, introduces the current research challenges of open education. From a more applied perspective, participants are also introduced to the topic of open licensing and the sharing of learning resources.
The course is for trainers, information technology (IT) specialists and managers of public and private training institutions involved in the design and implementation of training activities, in particular: - decision-makers and policy-makers in education and training institutions; - training activity and training institutions managers; - training-of-trainer specialists; - training specialists in workers' and employers' organizations; - vocational training professionals; - instructional designers, trainers and tutors.
