CSR Training for focal points of the Federation of Egyptian Industries
As part of an ILO ACTEMP project to build capacity in the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) managed by the Cairo Office, the Programme for Employers’ Activities of the ITC ILO delivered a training workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Cairo from 19th to 21st of May 2015. The workshop was done in cooperation with the International Organisation of Employers.
30 participants attended the workshop presented in Arabic and English. Half of the participants were staff members from the FEI and its sectoral chambers, the other half were representatives of their member companies.
The objective of the workshop was threefold:
- Give to participants an overview/update on current global developments in the field of CSR;
- Take stock of local CSR practices in Egypt and learn from best examples;
- Identify companies’ needs regarding CSR and possible services that could be offered by FEI and its sectoral branches.
During the different sessions, international experts from the IOE (Matthias Thorns), ILO (Eric Oechslin and Dr Elsayed Torky) and ITCILO (Jeanne Schmitt) intervened but also academic experts eg. from the German University of Cairo (Noha El-Bassiouny). Moreover, 5 companies participating to the workshop presented their CSR practices and fuelled a lively and most interesting exchange on the dissemination of CSR practices in the Egyptian context and its links to the overall development strategy of the country.
At the end of the workshop, participants worked on a list of demand driven services to be developed by FEI. This output will be taken into account in the next phases of the broader ILO project.
