The International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO), the Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) and the Academy for International Cooperation of the GIZ (AIZ/GIZ) join forces to organize this course as part of Centre’s Skills Development portfolio, which targets worldwide capacity building needs to support the implementation of TVET and skills development programs.

This course provides insights into a systemic management approach and discusses the practical concepts and skills needed to prepare the vocational training Centres to face the challenges of
the future of work.

What topics does this course cover?

This course is designed to facilitate the development of a holistic understanding of the management of vocational training centres by the participants, with sessions about:

  • The strategic management of a vocational training Centre;
  • Responsiveness of a vocational training Centre to labour market needs;
  • PPPs and the relationship between vocational training Centres and industry;
  • Vocational training Centres’ financial sustainability: autonomy and self-financing.
What will I learn?

By the end of the programme, participants will have strengthened their technical knowledge to improve the functioning of vocational training centres. In particular, participants will have:

  • Strengthened their understanding of management concepts, reviewing the management of vocational training Centres from a quality-based perspective;
  • Examined management challenges related to a vocational training Centre;
  • Developed a thorough understanding of the Centre’s role in skills development, skills recognition and transition from school-to-work processes.

The participants will have access to the ITCILO e-Campus to make the course a 360-degree learning experience.

What will I be able to do?

Participants leave this course connected to a global network of skills development professionals and they will be able to improve their analytical and managerial capacity in the management of the vocational training Centres by:

  • Properly analysing bottlenecks and challenges at the level of their own Centres;
  • Identifying the main elements to respond to labour market demands;
  • Drawing a strategic development plan of their Centres;
  • Strengthening the business model of their institution, by assessing the services and products that can be provided by their Centres to the labour market.
