Gianmaria Ajani, Rector of the University of Turin. His main field of research deals with the impact of legal reforms on economic performance, particularly in the field of contract law. Since 2004 he is Speaker for the Academic Network called ACQUIS Group, whose aim is to develop common "Principles of the Existing EC Private Law". Professor Ajani has advised several international institutions, such as the IMF, the EU Commission, UNDP, the ILO, on different aspects of legal reforms in Transition Countries, with particular reference to commercial laws, and to the codification of private law. From 1998 to 2006 he has acted for the German Agency for Technical Assistance (GTZ), as Expert to the Ministry of Commerce and to the Financial and Economic Committee of the National People´s Congress of PR of China. He has taught as Visiting Professor at the University of California,Berkeley, at the Université de Fribourg (Switzerland), at the University of Wuhan (PRC), and at the University of Hanoi (Vietnam) Previously, he has practiced law with the international firm Allen&Overy.
