The world is changing. So are we. This fully online course provides a practical overview of some of our most-requested topics: communication planning; storytelling and writing; social media, search engine optimization, and digital analytics; and effective presentations.

Whether you need to spark positive change, build more inclusive communities, or simply influence people, refining your communication skills can help. 

Through a series of 16 videos, you’ll learn how to move from strategy to action. UN practitioners, international consultants, and digital media experts will help you bring your vision to life.

Course format

This 4-week course requires a time commitment of less than 6 hours per week. Every Monday, you’ll get new video lessons, tools, assignments, and discussions.

At the end of the course, you’ll walk away with new knowledge and tools, an expanded network of friends and peers, and an actionable plan for your current C4D project. (No project? No problem. We’ll assign a realistic assignment to participants without one.)

This course is hosted on eCampus, our online learning platform. You’ll gain access to course materials, discussion boards, and exciting digital extras.

Week 1: Communication planning

Build your plan — Select a communication challenge that you’re dealing with at work and brainstorm for possible solutions. This will be the foundation for the rest of your work throughout the course.

Week 2: Storytelling and writing

Explore the science of storytelling and start creating authentic content that moves people.

Start writing — Don’t just tell your audience what to do; show them why it matters. Craft your storyline, connect with your readers, and bring them along for the ride.

Week 3: Social media, SEO, and digital analytics

Dive into the world of social media and create engaging content to drive action.

  • Make sense of your data — Translate numbers into meaningful content

Week 4: Effective presentations

How do I apply?

All the Centre's regular courses are open to candidates through grants or individual sources of funding. These candidates should send their applications directly to the ITCILO. 

Workers’ Activities and Employers’ Activities training courses are available by invitation only. Additional candidates may be accepted if they pay a fee and are approved by the Secretary of the Workers’ Group or Employers’ Group of the ILO Governing Body.

What are the criteria and qualifications required for admission?

The application procedure allows the Centre to match participants' needs to training activities. In general, it is important to specify language skills, job experience, and academic background.

What do the prices cover?

Tuition prices cover course preparation, implementation and evaluation, training materials and books, and the use of facilities and support services. For face-to-face courses, tuition also covers study tours (if planned) and emergency medical insurance.

Subsistence prices cover accommodation and full board on campus, laundry services (for courses longer than one week), and local study visits (if planned). For courses outside Turin, subsistence prices cover accommodation and full board, as well as incidentals, depending on the available facilities.

What if I need to cancel?

Cancellation of participation in standard courses will result in the following penalties:

  • 14 days or more prior to the start date of the course: No penalty, 100% refund of amount paid less applicable bank charges
  • 8 to 13 days prior to the start date of the course: Penalty of 50% of course price, refund of residual amount paid (if any) less applicable bank charges
  • 7 days or less prior to the start date of the course: Penalty of 100% of course price

How many participants are admitted?

Most courses accept between 20 and 30 participants. Academies may admit up to 100 participants.

What can I do to prepare?

Certain courses include a preliminary online learning phase. Participants should complete all online learning modules to prepare for the face-to-face phase.
