EMPOWERING DEVELOPMENT: TOWARDS JUST TRANSITIONS AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

Development Cooperation Academy 2024

ODPS Academy

Don't miss the opportunity to join the Development Cooperation Academy 2024– a unique event for development practitioners interested in exploring how Development Cooperation can enhance Social Justice and facilitate a Just Transition!

As we navigate towards new environmental and global equilibria, we embrace the challenges and opportunities these changes bring. Are we moving towards a future of harmony and stability, or one marked by contention and volatility? This gathering is more than just a conference; it's a vibrant forum for practitioners, and stakeholders in DC to engage, debate, and shape the practice that can underpin development towards social justice and just transition.

Our focus extends beyond theoretical discussions; we delve into the practical implications of global shifts on the pursuit of social justice and sustainable development. We question, we challenge, and we strive to understand the role of DC in this complex, dynamic landscape. Our event is a melting pot of diverse perspectives, experiences, and expertise, all converging to forge innovative solutions and strategies.

The Academy offers a blended Certification Programme in five key disciplines of development management. Successful completion of the online phase, in-person track, and a tutor-led practicum grants a recognized certificate of achievement. The disciplines are:

  • Programme and Project Design: Design strategies and plans for impactful initiatives.
  • Effective Project Management:Learn sound management principles and agile and adaptive techniques for project success
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Understand and apply key methods to assess programme performance.
  • Financial Management: Gain insights into financial planning and oversight in development projects.
  • Impact Evaluation: Measure the social and economic influence of your initiatives.
Certification

Participants will specialize in one of the disciplines above and will receive a certificate of achievement upon completion of the whole program with all three phases.

Global Forum

Inspired by the success of the 2023 DC Academy, ITCILO comes back with the same innovative format, blending elements of a conference and certification courses. Participants choose one specific discipline for certification, which they study both online and in person during the Academy duration.

The programme features an on-campus event where each day includes a plenary session that involves panel discussions that bring together participants from all certification disciplines, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives.

These sessions, focus on:

  • Social Justice
  • Just Transition
  • Equal rights and Freedom from Violence
  • Partnerships
  • Adapting to Constant Change

Venue and Logistics

The Development Cooperation Academy is scheduled to take place in three phases from 17 June to 9 August 2024.

Phases

The initial segment, online, will happen on the ITCILO eCampus from 17 June to 5 July, involving both synchronous and asynchronous preparatory activities focusing on the five disciplines. They are organised as separate certification courses. Each participant can choose one discipline only.

During the Academy, participants will take part in the Forum and in the courses dedicated to the discipline of their choice. The Academy takes place at the ITCILO Campus in Turin in the week of 8th July. The campus has a modern and well-maintained environment that is conducive to learning and professional development. The campus is spread over 10 hectares of land in a green area at the foot of the Turin hills on the Po river, a fantastic learning environment that is designed to provide a high-quality learning experience for professionals from all over the world.

In the last phase, participants will deepen and round up their learning with an individual final project. The project will incorporate the concepts learned in the chosen discipline and reflect on the ideas and discussions on the future of work in development cooperation that were developed in the Forum.

Cost

The cost of participation is fixed at 2575 euros including tuition fees and the full-board accommodation on campus for the five days.
