Présentation du cours

Digital transformation is reshaping the field of occupational safety and health (OSH), providing powerful tools to identify hazards in real time, assess and monitor risks, strengthen compliance with OSH standards, and support rapid control and mitigation strategies. This course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to harness emerging technologies-including different tools such as artificial intelligence, big data, and digital platforms-to enhance workplace safety and health outcomes. Participants will explore how digital systems streamline OSH management through dashboards, remote monitoring, automated scheduling, and other advanced tools. The programme will cover a broad range of topics, from AI-driven analytics and wearable technologies to real-time hazard detection systems that enable proactive accident and disease prevention. Through case studies and simulations, learners will discover how drones, sensors, mobile applications, and computer vision are already being deployed to monitor hazards and support swift responses. Interactive sessions, hands-on exercises, and peer learning opportunities provide a comprehensive foundation for leveraging disruptive technologies to strengthen modern OSH governance and advance workplace health and safety protection.

Groupes cibles

This course is designed for: z OSH professionals and company-level practitioners, including members of OSH Committees and those responsible for workplace risk prevention and compliance systems. z Public authorities engaged in OSH promotion, dissemination, and enforcement. z Trade union representatives, employer organizations' representatives, and technical experts involved in OSH governance. z Policymakers, trainers and advisors interested in exploring how digital innovation-AI, monitoring tools, and other emerging technologies-can transform OSH practices.

What will I learn?

Throughout the expert-led presentations, practical case-studies, and group discussions, participants will cover a wide range of digital topics including:

  • Core principles, tools and experiences of digital transformation in OSH.
  • The fundamentals of digital tools and real-time monitoring systems for hazard detection, risk assessment, and workplace safety governance.
  • Practical applications of IoT devices, sensors, wearables, and computer vision technologies to prevent exposures and enhance OSH inspections.
  • Methods for building digital dashboards and using mobile applications to track compliance, report near-misses, and strengthen worker participation.
  • Innovative approaches to OSH training and communication, including VR/AR simulations, e-learning, QR codes, nudges, and gamification for safe behaviours.
  • Data-driven approaches for prevention, including digital repositories, trend analysis, and visualization tools to refine protective measures over time.
What will I be able to do?

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the core principles, tools and experiences of digital transformation in OSH
  • Identify and apply digital tools and real-time monitoring systems to detect hazards, assess risks, and strengthen workplace safety governance.
  • Use IoT devices, sensors, wearables, and computer vision technologies to prevent exposures and enhance the effectiveness of OSH inspections.
  • Design and implement digital dashboards and mobile applications to track compliance, report near misses, and foster active worker participation in safety management.
  • Apply innovative approaches to OSH training and communication—such as VR/AR simulations, e-learning, QR codes, and gamification—to build worker competences and promote safe behaviours.
  • Analyse and interpret monitoring data with digital repositories, trend analysis, and visualization tools to refine preventive measures and improve OSH decision-making.
  • Draft a practical action plan and roadmap to pilot or scale digital reforms into the OSH management at the organizational level.
Format and methodology

The course will consist of a total of 60 learning hours, divided as follows:

  • Online Phase (15 hours): Online learning combining self-guided modules on the e-Campus platform with live sessions and expert presentations covering the foundational concepts behind the new technologies, artificial intelligence and digitalization.
  • Residential Phase (40 hours): 5-day intensive training at the ITCILO in Turin providing a deep dive into the digital solutions for more effective and accountable workplace compliance.
  • Post-Course Assignment (5 hours): Individual work to develop an applied project combining the learning outcomes of the course.
Languages

The workshop will be conducted in English and participants are therefore expected to have a good command of the English language.

Why should I join?
  • The Turin Centre is known for its innovative learning tools and methodologies and decades of international experience.
